Skethers is pretty famous. Although their ads aren't needed, due to how much they fit in to their society, they are a great example of showing just how "less is more". Not much photoshop was added in this photo, and the sketchers are clearly the main focus. The background, besides the sand beneath the shoes, was blurred out.
Back then, flashy ads were a must to drive people into buying their products. Although, Nike was different. Photoshop was never used in this, and instead of going all-out with effects, they decided to include a small story and info about how the shoe can be a good product to buy.
The longer you look at this ad, the more that pops out. This ad really shows itself off with the "Most wanted brands" text in the top right. If you notice the water under the shoe, you can see that the water is actually done through the use of photoshop and cgi to make it look like a hand! It's such a clever way of showing that even the water under the sewer grates wants their shoes.
Not so different from the NIKE ad, this one adds a little more sparkle and shine rather than info. They want to dazzle the readers instead! They hired an artist to make a drawing relating to the shoe, most likely even drawing the shoe. With the little headline of "In this air age, it's air-o-magic". It gives a sense that the future is slowly creeping around the corner from it.
